Hello, Summer and a BIG Announcement for OMG Yarn

Well, the summer season has officially started for our lovely little shop. That means planning like crazy for fall yarns, and enjoying a little bit of the warmer weather.

That also means knitting and crocheting with lighter weight yarns too! Fingering and sport weight yarns allow you to keep up with your fiber obsession without the weight of bulky yarn (pardon the pun) overheating you.

The Enderis Park Pullover in OMG Rushmore. Main color is #EarlGrey; complementary color is #Surrender.

I’ll be posting suggestions for some great summer projects, including new patterns from OMG, the newest of which will be posted this week and next week. I’ll also be hosting a few workshops (meaning one session classes) throughout the warmer months to keep your skills fresh.

So…Don’t forget that buying OMG patterns and yarn means I can continue to be here and keep up with the demand for better and better projects. Don’t let the summer slow you down.

Isn’t Allyson from Holla Knits gorgeous in her Enderis Park Pullover sample?! Work it!

Holla Knits Pattern Giveaway
In case you missed it, my newest pattern, the Enderis Park Pullover was released on June 15 on Holla Knits’ website. I’ll be hosting a pattern giveaway and participating in a blog tour on June 26 (you’ll see the post here). Keep an eye out for the details, coming soon. In the mean time, you can find the pattern for purchase on Holla Knits’ site here. If you need help with the project or would like to order some OMG yarn to make yours, shoot me an email (melina AT MidwestYarn DOT com) and I’ll be happy to help!

My BIG Announcement
My friends and family are privy to this news already, but I wanted to share with all my followers. No, I’m not pregnant. I’VE BEEN ACCEPTED TO BE A VENDOR VOGUE KNITTING LIVE: CHICAGO this October! It is, to say the least, a dream come true and I couldn’t have done this without your encouragement and support.

What this means is I HAVE to buy more yarn (and finish paying off the big shipment I just got), so make sure you keep supporting our online and brick and mortar stores so that we can have a successful show with all the yarns! I have a few more surprises up my sleeve to tempt your yarn obsession, so be sure you’re following the blog, Instagram, and Twitter to keep updated on all the preparation and peeks at what I’m working on.

Mid-Ohio Fiber Fair Recap
Well, the Fiber Fair has come and gone, and I had a great time! I met some great new contacts, saw some familiar faces, and introduced everyone to littlest shop helper, Sharky. While I didn’t reach my personal sales goal for the show, my attendance was well worth it, so many thanks to all who came out. I’m plotting what the next shows are to apply for, so stay tuned!

New Year, Now What?

The end of the holiday season, means I enter the super planning phases of the next big projects for OMG and Midwest Yarn.

The Spring 2015 collection of patterns for OMG are fully underway and will launch in late May, in time for our big TNNA debut. The Fall 2015 collection is in planning phases: the theme has been chosen and has the usual nerdy undertones.

I also have all of the semi-solid color additions planned for 2015, that’s not including any that my come up because of special order, etc. I’m also working on doing some limited edition variegated colorways to be released throughout the year.

Trade Shows
We are in the initial planning phases to coordinate my family members to help out with logistics for making it to the big summer trade show in Columbus, OH at the end of May/beginning of June. After that, I am deciding if I want to get a booth at Stitches Midwest or Wisconsin Sheep and Wool. Any insight? Which one would you like to see OMG present?

  1. Pre-ordering ends for our January Project of the Month Kits this Thursday (midnight). See our previous post for details and links to ordering.
  2. New classes have just been posted here. Sign up soon, we can add extra sessions if they fill up quickly.

New Patterns and New Yarn!

I am pleased to announce that we’ve released five new patterns for our new hand dyed yarn. They are available for purchase on Ravelry, Etsy (shopid: omgmidwestyarn), and we’re waiting to hear about getting them uploaded to PatternFish.

Knit patterns were designed by me and crochet patterns done by Barb Mastre Stanford. I absolutely love all of them, but if I had to pick a favorite to complete, it was Barb’s Swagger pattern. All the yarn is a pleasure to work with, silky soft (and OMG Vegas does have some silk in it).

Take a look:

You’ll be able to purchase yarn in the retail shop, patterns, and kits beginning this Saturday, November 29. If you’re not local to Milwaukee, you will be able to purchase yarn through Etsy, as well. I’ll be doing a few in-depth posts about the new yarn soon, just to give people an idea of how wonderful each of our new yarns are. If you want to see them in person, stop by the shop this Saturday.

I have a lot of yarn waiting to hit the shelves and I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone thinks. See you soon and Happy Thanksgiving!

OMG’s New Yarn and Patterns Coming Soon

The last pattern has been written and is in testing phase now, so I’m happy to say that the tentative date for our new yarns to debut will be Small Business Saturday (November 29). Barring no delays with shipping, yarn dyeing, and finishing touches on patterns, we will have kits in stock for purchase beginning that weekend.

There will be two crochet patterns available (a cowl and a shawl), and then a couple of other fun knit patterns including a matching hat and cowl, fingerless mitts, and a shawl for multiple gauges. As you can tell, the theme for the fall patterns focuses on accessories that are a joy to make and take only one, two, or three skeins. These projects and yarns are so irresistible that I knit and crocheted them all myself, I couldn’t put them down to hand off to people I had asked if they’d knit or crochet samples. Let’s just say that the excitement of working with my own yarn line has also played a big part in that too.

Everyone who pre-ordered their yarn will have it ship that week along with patterns for that yarn. I’ll also have the new yarns and patterns listed on Ravelry so that people can put their new yarn purchases in their Ravelry stashes. How exciting is that?!

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be passing along sneak peeks at the new yarn as it gets dyed and processed.

In the mean time, stop in check out new yarn available in our brick and mortar shop. We just got a ton of mini-skein packs from Frabjous Fibers and I’m itching to design a pattern or two for the gorgeous colorways that have come in and are limited in availability (as in, once they sell out, they are gone, they are one of a kind packs).

I told you there’d be a LOT of new yarn coming this fall!
