Online Craft Auction
The online craft auction is one of the avenues in which we will be raising funds to expand OMG (the hand dyed yarns) and also bring in new yarns to the shop (see previous post).
What is being auctioned?
You will see headbands with knit/crocheted bows, cowls, etc. Some finished items are samples from previous yarn lines carried in the shop. We need to make room for more.
And yes, there will be yarn and fiber available too. Some from the shop, some hand spun that I’ve done, and also hand dyed yarn. I, sadly, don’t have the time to knit or spin ALL THE THINGS like I want to (don’t worry, I have a good stash that I have set aside and is all mine…wink, wink).
I am thankful to have talented, crafty friends that believe in me who are donating some handcrafted items to the online auction. Those of you that showed interest in donating something, deadline for submission is August 16, 2014. I will pay shipping for any items that must be shipped if you cannot drop them off. PS. I love you, I love you, I love you.
Where will the auction take place?
The auction will take place through an online Facebook Event. I will set up the event and you can RSVP to follow the auction.
When and how will this work?
On August 22, 2014, and 12:00pm Central Time, I will begin posting pictures and descriptions of the items. Unless otherwise stated, starting bid will always be $1. Participants will put their bid in the comments section of the photo for each listing. At 5:00pm Central Time on August 26, 2014, bidding is closed for the item. I will post in the comments section “CLOSED”. The highest bid will win. Each person that wins an auction will be notified to supply an email address to which I can send a PayPal invoice for payment. If you win more than one auction, you will receive an invoice for all items that you are awarded. If you would like to pick up your item(s) in person, please let me know. You don’t have to be in the area to participate, you will be charged shipping for your item(s) purchased and a total amount due will be reflected in your invoice. Yes, we will ship internationally, but be aware that shipping will vary by country and weight of the package.
All sales are final, no returns accepted. If someone wins an auction but does not pay their invoice within 3 days of the end of the auction, the next highest bidder will be contacted and awarded the listing.
If there’s anything I’ve missed, leave a message in the comments and I will respond ASAP.
An Aside: Room for Growth
I stumbled across an old notebook that had the beginnings of Midwest Yarn’s business plan hashed out. It has milestones/goals I’d hoped to achieve each year for the first five years of business. Yes, I was that passionate about the business that I made a five year plan. After reading all of it, I noticed one important thing: I had reached all of those goals.
Five years’ worth of goals were just done. I knew that if the business had gotten that far, but didn’t make it, I’d be pleased with my work. That passing thought left a sting. I had set myself up for failure. I was passionate, but did not have the confidence that I’d succeed (low self-esteem can be a killer).
I now believe (and am extremely determined to see) that the yarn shop and career I love will be a success. Now I am putting in a million times more effort to see this new chapter of the business grow into a reality.
