Happy September!

Yes, I’m here. I promise. Shop hours are now: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 11-5pm and Saturday 11-4pm. We will be closed on Tuesday, September 8th in observance of Labor Day and in preparation for a personal event I am attending on Wednesday the 9th.

So, things have obviously been rather hectic for me this summer, but I am so happy that the fall season for the shop is here. There’s about a month left prior to Vogue Knitting Live and I’m dyeing yarn and knitting samples to prepare our booth.

I’m still figuring out how to structure lessons for the fall, because we don’t know the kids’ official schedule just yet, but if you need one on one help for anything during shop hours, send me an email to set up times.

The Enderis Park Pullover: My Pattern Inspiration and Giveaway

In the park

The original idea!

It is always exciting to have a pattern idea become reality. The idea for the Enderis Park Pullover started as a sketch about 2 years ago, and sat in a binder until the right design call and the right time came.

This particular design is special because it of its versatility as a garment and as an added bonus works on just about any body type because it is oversized and drapey. It’s also something I could wear as a mom of two boys and feel comfortable running after them in the park or on a play date. 😉

The top would work perfectly over a camisole and a solid color skirt or shorts, great for a fashionable day at the beach or out around town running errands in the summer. It is the kind of top that I’d wear with jeans or jean shorts over a closer fitting shirt to keep my shoulders warm in the movie theater or even as a light, airy shirt to wear out to big outdoor gatherings like Summerfest (Milwaukee’s favorite outdoor music festival).

The final pattern!

The final pattern!

My sample was knit in OMG Rushmore, a sport weight, 100% superwash merino wool. The main color is Earl Grey, the complementary color is called Surrender.

So, if you want to make this pullover, hop on over to Holla Knits Summer 2015 Launch and get it today. The entire collection is pretty awesome.

Hello, Summer and a BIG Announcement for OMG Yarn

Well, the summer season has officially started for our lovely little shop. That means planning like crazy for fall yarns, and enjoying a little bit of the warmer weather.

That also means knitting and crocheting with lighter weight yarns too! Fingering and sport weight yarns allow you to keep up with your fiber obsession without the weight of bulky yarn (pardon the pun) overheating you.

The Enderis Park Pullover in OMG Rushmore. Main color is #EarlGrey; complementary color is #Surrender.

I’ll be posting suggestions for some great summer projects, including new patterns from OMG, the newest of which will be posted this week and next week. I’ll also be hosting a few workshops (meaning one session classes) throughout the warmer months to keep your skills fresh.

So…Don’t forget that buying OMG patterns and yarn means I can continue to be here and keep up with the demand for better and better projects. Don’t let the summer slow you down.

Isn’t Allyson from Holla Knits gorgeous in her Enderis Park Pullover sample?! Work it!

Holla Knits Pattern Giveaway
In case you missed it, my newest pattern, the Enderis Park Pullover was released on June 15 on Holla Knits’ website. I’ll be hosting a pattern giveaway and participating in a blog tour on June 26 (you’ll see the post here). Keep an eye out for the details, coming soon. In the mean time, you can find the pattern for purchase on Holla Knits’ site here. If you need help with the project or would like to order some OMG yarn to make yours, shoot me an email (melina AT MidwestYarn DOT com) and I’ll be happy to help!

My BIG Announcement
My friends and family are privy to this news already, but I wanted to share with all my followers. No, I’m not pregnant. I’VE BEEN ACCEPTED TO BE A VENDOR VOGUE KNITTING LIVE: CHICAGO this October! It is, to say the least, a dream come true and I couldn’t have done this without your encouragement and support.

What this means is I HAVE to buy more yarn (and finish paying off the big shipment I just got), so make sure you keep supporting our online and brick and mortar stores so that we can have a successful show with all the yarns! I have a few more surprises up my sleeve to tempt your yarn obsession, so be sure you’re following the blog, Instagram, and Twitter to keep updated on all the preparation and peeks at what I’m working on.

Mid-Ohio Fiber Fair Recap
Well, the Fiber Fair has come and gone, and I had a great time! I met some great new contacts, saw some familiar faces, and introduced everyone to littlest shop helper, Sharky. While I didn’t reach my personal sales goal for the show, my attendance was well worth it, so many thanks to all who came out. I’m plotting what the next shows are to apply for, so stay tuned!

Happy Birthday, Midwest Yarn! Gallery Night, and more…

This Friday, June 5, marks 3 years in our retail space! Join in wishing us a happy birthday, by celebrating at Bay View Gallery Night. It’s sure to be a fun time, because Food Truck Friday and a Jazz Band will be playing across the street.

We’re featuring artist Alison Anderson, a jewelry maker. She made littlest shop helper’s amber teething necklace and has some original pieces for sale. Stop by and see her from 6pm to 9pm. You’ll also be able to hang out and stitch as well. 🙂

Mid-Ohio Fiber Fair
The Mid-Ohio Fiber Fair is coming up quickly. I’ll be heading down to the Columbus/Newark, Ohio area on Thursday, June 11, and back to the shop Tuesday, June 16 (the day after my birthday!). We’ll be closed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday next week for the fair, since a huge bit of yarn is coming with me.

I will be updating the Etsy shop to show all the OMG Yarn I’ll be taking with me, including some new speckled colorways.

Pattern Preview and Weekend Update

Thank you to everyone who participated in our online auction a couple weeks ago, it was a big success and raised $920 for our trip to Ohio for the Mid-Ohio Fiber Fair!

Don’t forget, we’re closed tomorrow, Saturday, May 30, in order to travel to Columbus, Ohio for the TNNA summer show. Networking, visiting friends, looking at yarn to stock in the shop and potential new yarn bases for dyeing in the future. Please wish me safe travels!

That means no Stitch and Bitch tonight, but we’ll be hosting it next weekend as a part of Bay View’s Gallery Night from 6pm – 9pm as usual. Our featured artist this time is Allison Anderson who makes wonderful therapeutic jewelry (like our littlest shop helper’s teething necklace, which has helped him tremendously as he is popping in new teeth left and right). Join us for a relaxing evening!

And now, a couple of sneak peeks at a couple of the patterns coming out soon for OMG this summer…

Water Shawl 1

For our knitters…and this is the project that I have been jokingly calling the black hole for yarn.

Puff Star 3

And for our crocheters…

And if I can manage to stay awake on the flight home from TNNA tomorrow (yup, I’m flying down and flying back on the same day, ‘cos I got it like that…), I’ll type up my recap of the day.

Have a good weekend and we’ll see you next week!

Auction Day!

Today is the first day of OMG’s Second Annual Online Auction – Spring Cleaning 2015. Click here to join in the fun! I have close to 70 auction items ranging from finished knit and crochet items to dyed fiber and yarn.

The giveaway for the auction is pretty awesome too: I’m giving away skeins of our newest yarn coming out this fall called Midwest (of course). It is a worsted weight, 60% Domestic Alpaca, 40% Domestic Merino wool, meaning it’s a yarn completely sourced, spun, and dyed in the US.

  • First place – 3 skeins of Midwest in the color of your choice
  • Second place – 2 skeins of Midwest in the color of your choice
  • Third place – 1 skein of Midwest in the color of your choice

Each bid serves as an entry and a winning bid will get you 5 entries into the drawing. The winners will be announced early next week, once the dust settles after the auction.

I am beyond excited about the event, mainly because of the successful launch of the line last fall, and what lies ahead for my little studio/shop.

I just got back the first sample knit for the spring/summer designs and it is stunning. The knitter put her heart and soul into it and turning it over to me was like I’d asked her to give up her first born. Looks like I’ll have to make one of my own soon, so she can have hers back. 🙂

OMG Updates
With the Mid-Ohio Fiber Fair coming up in just a few short weeks, I’ve been ramping up my yarn dyeing schedule. I’ve been doing some variegated colorways and regularly posting them to my etsy shop. In fact, I have over 80 listings of yarn in stock and ready to ship.

Closed Tuesday, May 12
We’ll be closed Tuesday, May 12 so that I can be a chaperone for a field trip at Peanut’s school.
